Another Drew descendant

Yesterday, I updated my tree in GenesReunited and this morning there were two new contacts arising from Hot Matches. One is a Pentreath descendant, whose name I have seen elsewhere, but the other was the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Ann DREW and Francis Trannack CALF. Our Merseyside relations are manifold, it seems from a quick look at Josie's tree.

Not only am I descended from the Drew family on my mother's side but also from the PENTREATH family. Mary Pentreath (1800-1842) was the mother of Ellen Pezzack who married William Drew of Mousehole (1833-1916). Mary Pentreath's parents were Richard Pentreath (1766) and Elizabeth Wright (1767).

On my father's maternal side my 3xgreat grandmother was Arabella Ford Calf, daughter of Philip Calf and Rebecca Ford. Arabella's brother Philip Calf was the grandfather of Francis Trannack Calf who married Elizabeth Drew. Following Philip Calf's death in 1791, Rebecca went on to marry John Trannack in 1793 and had six more children by him. This is where the family name Trannack comes from - Francis Trannack Calf's step-grandfather being John Trannack. John Trannack was (like Philip Calf) a mariner and he was a prisoner of the French in the Napoleonic Wars - impounded at Verdun in 1811.

Several of my father's maternal family emigrated to Liverpool. My great-grandfather Benjamin Nicholls had two sisters Mary Agatha Nicholls and Agnes Nicholls who both moved to Merseyside, married and had large families. These would have been second cousins of Francis Trannack Calf, as Benjamin's grandmother was Arabella Ford Calf.

    Regards,

    Mary (Chown)

Apologies - Arabella Ford Calf's brother Philip Calf (born 1788)was the FATHER not the grandfather of Francis Trannack Calf (born 1833).
Arabella Ford Calf was born in 1785and married William Hill at St. Hilary on 29 December 1806. Their daughter Sophia Hill (born 1817) married John Nicholls of Penzance and they were the parents of my great-grandfather Benjamin Nicholls.

Thanks for that reminder, Mary. I'll point Josie towards your on-line tree.

    Cheers
    Geoff
