A Mexican Connection

Now, this story applies only to my twig of the tree, not the wider Drew family, as it concerns the brother of great-grandmother Jane (Harris) Drew.

It is lucky that John Harris, in 1881, was living with his wife's father in Redruth. His wife was Elizabeth J Goldsworthy. Now, it transpires that Elizabeth J's siblings were all born in Mexico. So were her 3 children. In 1871, they were in Redruth but John appears to be missing so maybe he was still in Mexico at that time. What on earth, besides (maybe) mining, would take a lad from St Agnes to Illogan to Mexico and eventually back to Redruth where, in 1881, he is a tin miner.

This solves the problem of the connection to Millie Goldsworthy in the great-aunts' autograph books. Looks as if she was Amilia Goldsworthy, probably a cousin to Elizabeth J. Right age, right location (Redruth). It also answers the question of the identity of Samuel Harris in the autographs - he was the son of John and Elizabeth J.

Harry's Doings

Dad just keeps on keeping on, and has featured again in his local newspaper, the Crow's Nest Advertiser.

(Click on an image to get it at a readable size. Then hit the Back button to return to the blog.)

Crow's Nest Advertiser, May 9, 2007. Dad and a friend. Dad has decided that he can no longer do solo performances of the the Last Post because of the possibility of shuffling off the mortal coil during the proceedings, so carries a 'spare' these days.

Crow's Nest Advertiser, May 22, 2007. A paraphrase of the piece published in the Sydney Morning Herald.

I visited him early this morning, and he's in rude good health for a bloke that is close to his 86th birthday.

Yet another Cousin Jenny

Folks, I have been a bit busy with things like earning a living and repairing hidden damage to the house. But this morning I received a message through Genes Reunited from Pamela Kidd, another descendant of Robert Drew. Somehow, I already had her name in the tree thanks to one of the many contributors, but now there is some detail.

And Pamela, I hope you are enjoying reading this little blog and using the links to see what else is 'out there' on this Drew family.
